Dear families and friends!
This week we talked about what we did with our families over the break. A lot of us missed coming to school but some of us wished the break was longer! We took some time to draw a photo of our family and what we did with them. We are beginning to label our picture with beginning sounds we know. For example, D = Dad or M = Mom or S = Sister.
We started an Art/Science inquiry on moose (AM) and beavers (PM). Ask your child what we have learned about them so far. We tried our very best to draw a photo of the animal without assistance and we all did very well. We will look into where these two animals live, what they eat, their physical description, etc this month.
At the art centre, we put out new tempera paint and these are just some of the beautiful paintings the kindergarteners have done.
Reading Strategies
We will be practicing reading strategies in the classroom. This week, we talked about "Look at the picture". We are using pictures to help us with words we do not know. "Point to the word" - we need to point to every word we read. "Sound it out" - when we come across a word that we don't know, we can sound it out!
Announcements
* I sent home an in-class field trip form. Clay for Kids will be coming into our classroom to do a project with us. Please ensure the forms or signed and money is sent in a bag by January 31, 2019. We are also looking for 3 volunteers in the morning and afternoon. Let me know if you are interested by January 18, 2019.
*Please return ALL library books. We will be going to the library on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Students who have booked signed out will not be able to take out new books.
Gym: For the month of January, students will be doing gymnastics in physical education. Students will need to be in appropriate attire. Students will need to make sure that:

I will hand the blue homework book back on Tuesday. Silly Ms. Dang left all the books at home. Whoops! Even teachers forget things sometimes.

- Long hair is tied back
- No neck ties
- Wear navy pants not tunics
- Avoid wearing necklaces or loose jewelry
- Wear clean gym shoes
