Literacy
Last week, we finished the alphabet! We will be working on printing the letters again but this time, we will be writing them in our journals and sounding out words that start with the letter we are learning.
Science and Art
We started an inquiry on moose and beavers! We learned about the animal's habitat (ask your child what this means!), food that they eat and the unique features these two animals have. Along with this, students have been working on scientific drawings of the moose (AM) and beaver (PM). They use feedback from other students and teachers as well as critiquing their own work to improve their drawings. We can't wait to show you the final product!
Reading Strategies
We will be practicing reading strategies in the classroom. This week, we talked about "Look at the picture". We are using pictures to help us with words we do not know. "Point to the word" - we need to point to every word we read. "Sound it out" - when we come across a word that we don't know, we can sound it out!
Announcements
* I sent home an in-class field trip form. Clay for Kids will be coming into our classroom to do a project with us. Please ensure the forms or signed and money is sent in a bag by January 31, 2019. We are also looking for 3 volunteers in the morning and afternoon. Let me know if you are interested by January 18, 2019.
*Please return ALL library books. We will be going to the library on Wednesday, January 22, 2019 Students who have booked signed out will not be able to take out new books.
Gym: For the month of January, students will be doing gymnastics in physical education. Students will need to be in appropriate attire. Students will need to make sure that:

- Long hair is tied back
- No neck ties
- Wear navy pants not tunics
- Avoid wearing necklaces or loose jewelry
- Wear clean gym shoes
