Letter A has 3 sounds!

Hello Families and Friends,

It has been a very busy week. This week we practiced writing the letter A, the sounds it makes and different things that start with that letter. We sang the jolly phonics song and added the three sounds to the end. What 3 sounds does letter A make? (Ah, Ay, Ahhh)

Math

In math, we sorted objects by different shapes. 

Orange Shirt Day is on Monday, September 30, 2019. As a school, we talked about what we care about and things that make us feel safe in the world, community, school and home. 

"Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis' story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually."

Students are welcome to wear an orange shirt and any bottoms. If your child does not have an orange shirt, please have them wear their formal uniform. 

We watched a story titled "When I was eight..." and talked about things that make us sad. 

Here are some of the things the students said: 

"When someone pushes me" 

"When my heart is broken"

"When I get needles"

"When it's cold outside" 

"Thunder storms and rain" 

Things to practice at home: 

1. Name (First letter is upper case and the rest is lower case) 
2. The letter A and the 3 sounds it makes. 
3. Sorting by shapes 
4. Talk about things that make you feel happy/sad

No school for AM Kindergarten on Friday, September 27 and Friday, October 4.
